I believe in funding cancer research. Although cancer is a disease that happens to relatively few people, it is remarkably frightening. The reason it is so frightening is because cancer is not only for the poor, the weak, or the ignorant. Washing your hands will not prevent cancer, and your immune system will almost never just eliminate it. In this way, the fear of cancer is similar to the fear of a shark attack, a jellyfish, or a sting ray's barb. It matters very little that there is a small chance of being eaten by the shark, and it matters very little that there is a very small chance of being barbed by the sting ray. The key issue is that while in the water, a human feels vulnerable. If a shark attack did happen, I would never see it coming... This is because murky water takes the power of eyesight away from a human, thus making him defenseless against a surprise attack. The only cure for this fear is to step out of the water. But just imagine if there were no land to step onto, if the cancer were always there to threaten even the happiest moments, with the gruesome possibility of death. Children left parent-less, and dreamless, and not just the distant poor African ones. Someone just like you will get cancer and die from it this year. Someone just like you will have to abandon their children... forever. This should not happen. People should not have to live in this fear. Medicine has consolidated life to such a degree that unexpected death almost never occurs; making it all the more devastating when it happens.

In this blog I would like to talk about pizza. Pizza comes in many flavors such as cheese, pepperoni, and sausage. The favorite pizza topping however, is far from absolute. On this topic, there has been an exceedingly large diversification in opinions among many tested subjects, including a large amount of individuals who responded that they were unable to determine their favorite flavor. As a direct result of this, the survey that was to determine the pizza flavor with the highest rated taste quotient returned results that contained little applicable value. One colleague took a stance on this dilemma. He queried, "Why do you not just throw out the unknown responses and continue your survey from there?" Never have a heard such a large breach of the scientific honor system. One cannot just alter the data to receive the desired result! How preposterous was he to think that I would commit such fraud as to skew the data to improve my perception in scientific society? My thought? Very preposterous. In conclusion, I like pizza.

I am about ready to be done with school because i am really tired of these AP exams. I have now taken one of them and I am ready to take the AP US History exam this Friday. I hope that I have studied enough United States History that I do well on this exam because without studying enough United States History there is almost no chance that I do well on the United States History AP exam. If I have studied enough then I will certainly do well on the AP exam because  I just defined enough studying to mean enough studying to get a decent grade on the AP exam. In the same respect, if I have not studied enough, I will not get a good grade on the AP exam, but now we, you and I, have a dire problem. I have not defined the word good, which still leaves the word enough undefined, which as a result of a chain reaction leaves the conditional statements which I have specified above to be entirely undefined. This however is an incorrect assumption, for while they lack definition as of now, when provided any one definition of the words that remains undefined, then the rest of the statements then become defined.

Look at that word. Such an interesting thing. How can a word so small and seemingly insignificant guide my life? How can a word so seemingly small and insignificant force me to spend all of my time studying? Why is it that a word seemingly so small and insignificant create such an intense impact on my life? The answer to all three of those questions comes in the form of an AP Test. I highly dislike AP tests. What is the point anyway? In a course you will experience one of two distinct outcomes. You can either succeed at the course, or you can fail at the course. A college will endeavor only to allow you to skip a course if you perform well enough on the AP exam that it demonstrates that you would have done exceptionally well in the course. But if you would have done exceptionally well in the course, then you should have taken the course in college because it would have increased your GPA, but if you did not succeed in the course in the AP class, then the college should not let you skip the course based on your exam score. That said, the classes you did skip were the ones that you should have taken to counteract the inevitable hit your GPA will take when you take the courses in which you failed your AP Exam in high school.

This essay is quite relavent to Johnny Got his Gun. D'Souza discusses the way that fighting a war that is based on something distant like Islamic fundamentalism, will result in a significant loss of willpower. In a similar sense, Joe is hidden from the public to censor the horrors of war to prevent the loss of willpower among other Americans. Joe is one outcome of War, but nobody advertises the gruesome outcomes (Except Driver's Ed and this book). If every candy bar contained a picture of a hobos rotting, cavity ridden teeth on it, then significantly fewer children would eat as much candy. The reality is that eating candy could result in that situation, but that is not presented. The part that is presented is a happy person enjoying the luxurious sugary candy bar, strumming his banjo, (or some other completely unrelated instrument), and making some remark about how awesome the taste of the item is. War is advertised the same way because the dead were shown America would have no army and would be virtually defenseless to its enemies. Johnny Got His Gun also argues that wars should only be fought for issues personally relavent to oneself, which I personally disagree with. Anyone who has read or heard the poem Martin Niemiller's poem on the holocaust memorial would understand that only fighting for oneself is a fatally flawed system. "First they came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because i wasn't a communist... Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak up." One cannot just passively sit down and watch things that are valuable to others escape them because humans require unity to accomplish their goals. Although the army is not a perfect system, it combines the moral values of many and secures them. You cannot please everyone, but supporting only fighting for the wars you believe in pleases no one because you will lose them all.

AP TESTS ARE BORING. Really, they are. You sit there, in a room. You look at a question. You answer the question, and you fill in a bubble. You repeat this for about an hour. Then comes the exciting part: the essays. The most entertaining way to write an essay is to make sure that you are writing something at all times. In this exercise, stopping to think is prohibited. When you are done. Read your essay and laugh at how bad it is. That's entertainment. It is odd to have the entire class lead up to a test because once you take it, it is like nothing matters anymore. Especially since the goal of the class is to not have to take it in college, which essentially means that if you take the test correctly, you are done with the class forever. The history AP exam which I will take soon will be quite interesting. I anticipate that there will be many questions about Indian culture. This elicits a problem because I know very little about Indian culture because a lot of it was generated before the United States existed, and it seems like there is no history of the US before the US was created. The AP thinks otherwise, but i think it is crazy.  

Essay

This essay had tons to do with the book. In march of the flag a reference is made to patriotism. A reference to patriotism is also made in Johnny got his gun. In Johnny got his Gun the main character is hidden from the public in the attempt to maintain the primary role of patriotism in the joining of war. If people were to see the potential dangers of the war in a form as tangible as what has happened to Joe it is thought that the people would no longer adress patriotism as the primary aspect of war but would rather think of the death, pain, and permanent injuries that occur so commonly. Because the size of the army of a nation is a determining factor of it's success and intimidating enemies away from war. Because of these obvious benefits, it is necessary for the nation to limit the viewing of the broken man lest the nation's people choose not to koin the war, revolt, and cause death and destruction to befall the nation as other armies who have not been so tainted can ravage the earth where are families and livelihood once remained under the happy protection of the willing army.
